GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women's basketball team fell to Ripon 65-54 on Friday night.
The Redhawks took and early 9-2 lead and outscored Knox 24-12 in the first quarter to earn the early advantage. The second quarter was more of a back-and-forth affair, but the Prairie Fire were unable to make much headway. Ripon led 34-23 heading into halftime.
The Redhawks still held a double-digit lead with 6:34 left in the third quarter, but Knox used an 11-0 run to take a 41-40 lead at the 2:06 mark. Ripon scored in the waning seconds of the third quarter to take a 43-41 lead into the final period.
The Redhawks soon built back up another double-digit lead and the Prairie Fire would get no closer than seven points for the remainder of the game as Ripon held on for the victory.
Jarrelyn McCall led Knox with 16 points, hitting a pair of treys. Kyra Huffman earned a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
"We played a very good second half," said head coach Emily Cline. "I was very proud of the fight we showed."
Knox will return to action tomorrow as they host St. Norbert.
