Women's Basketball Completes Comeback Victory

GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women's basketball team defeated St. Norbert 63-60 to complete a comeback victory on Saturday afternoon.
 
Knox came out strong in the first quarter and built up a 20-10 lead. The Green Knights hit a three-pointer late in the quarter and then scored the first eight points of the second quarter to take a 21-20 lead. After some back-and-forth, St. Norbert came away with a 30-26 lead heading into halftime.
 
The Green Knights pulled away to a 10 point lead early in the third quarter, but treys from Jessica Lee and Nyah Daniels brought the Prairie Fire back to within striking distance. A jumper by St. Norbert late in the quarter gave the Green Knights a 46-39 advantage to begin the final period.
 
Knox chipped away at the lead with a 7-2 run to begin the fourth quarter. St. Norbert still maintained a four point lead with 3:52 to play, but a three-pointer and a jumper from Jarrelyn McCall gave the Prairie Fire a 58-54 lead. McCall and Saxon Alvarez combined to hit 5-of-6 free throws to maintain the slight advantage. Knox forced a turnover in the Green Knights' final possession to earn the victory.
 
McCall led Knox with 18 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. She really turned it on in the fourth quarter with nine points down the stretch. Kyra Huffman added eight points and nine boards.
 
"We had a great bounce back win today," said head coach Emily Cline. "I was really proud of our toughness and the ability to make stops late. It was a very good win for us."
 
The Prairie Fire host Cornell on January 8 to continue the conference homestand.
