GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire volleyball team defeated Iowa Wesleyan 3-0 on Wednesday night. Knox celebrated seniors Sally Bessette and Kaitlyn Haase before the game.
The Prairie Fire demolished the Tigers 25-8 in the first set, but Iowa Wesleyan made it interesting in set two. Knox held an early 9-6 lead, but the Tigers rallied to take a 10-9 lead. The Prairie Fire took a 15-14 lead, but Iowa Wesleyan soon pulled ahead 21-17 and eventually led 24-22. Knox tied the game at 24-24 and came out on top 30-28.Â
The Prairie Fire jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the third set, but the Tigers came back to tie it up at 11-11. Knox took control from there and won the third set 25-15.
Emme Patton led the Prairie Fire with 27 digs, while Katie Anderson tallied 26 assists. Catessa Duran added 10 kills and four blocks. Haase and Autumn Schneider each racked up eight kills. Haase tacked on 12 digs and three blocks.
"It was great to see our resilience in that second set," said head coach Pat Barry. "Earlier in the year we probably wouldn't have been able to come back like that, but we stood our ground and refused to give in. Great way to send out the seniors."
Knox returns to action with a pair of road matches against Luther and Lake Forest at Grinnell on October 30 to close out the season.
