GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's soccer team fell to Millikin 3-2 in their home opener on Wednesday afternoon.
The Big Blue got the scoring started early with a goal in the 15th minute. They added another score at the 21:41 mark.
Knox responded late in the first half when Lydia Mitchell found the back of the net with just over four minutes left to play before halftime. Emma Art was credited with the assist.
The score remained 2-1 heading into the intermission.
Mitchell knotted the score with another goal just over 10 minutes into the second half, this time on an assist from Brooklyn Deming.
Millikin added a score just four minutes later to take back the lead.
Knox outshot the Big Blue 16-9 overall and 9-4 in shots on goal.
"We had tons of chances to score, but could not quite come away with quality shots," said head coach Taylor Houck. "We definitely have some things to work on, but Millikin is a tough team and a great first test as we head into some tough non-conference games before conference play."
The Prairie Fire return to action on September 4 as they travel to Illinois Institute of Technology.
