Women's Soccer Edged by Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois - The Knox Prairie Fire women's soccer fell to the Augustana (IL) College Vikings this Monday at Jorge Prats Field, losing by a final score of 1-0. With the loss, their record on the season falls to 1-4.

In the first half, the Prairie Fire offense gave the Vikings everything they could handle. Keeping possession for much of the half, Knox saw multiple promising shots from both Lydia Mitchell and Emily McParland that were narrowly saved by Viking keeper Janey Castoe. After this initial barrage, Knox mostly fell silent, content to hold the ball and probe for potential openings in Augustana's defense. As a result, the Prairie Fire only shot the ball twice in the last 23 minutes of the half, and despite outshooting the Vikings 7-2, they entered halftime level.

The second half saw Augustana flip the script completely, with a heavy attack that put the Prairie Fire on their back foot. The Prairie Fire defense struggled to clear the ball from their own zone, as the Vikings pounded the goal incessantly with crosses and through passes galore. Outshooting the Prairie Fire 18-4 in the second half, Augustana finally managed to squeak a shot through on goal in the 64th minute. While Knox attempted to even the game in the waning minutes, it was to no avail, and the Prairie Fire lost the game.

Knox looks to earn their second win of the season when they host Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology this Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
