Women's Soccer Claims Victory at Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Knox Prairie Fire women's soccer team were victorious this Wednesday, as they roundly defeated the Dubuque Spartans 3-0. The victory snaps a three game winless streak, and puts their season record at 2-5-1.

Early in the first half, the Prairie Fire drew plenty of fouls, as their physical play put the Spartans in tough spots all over the field. In the 21st minute, Lydia Mitchell broke open the tie with her 5th goal of the year, bringing Knox a swagger that they would not give up. Nine minutes later, she would provide an assist on Emma Art's goal, giving Knox their second goal of the game. Knox had several more prime goal scoring opportunities throughout the half that warranted saves from the Dubuque goalkeeper, but the score remained 2-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Knox managed to not only get off eight shots, but also get half of those on goal, an impressive conversion rate. Heaven Garcia and Louise Schoeffel both had efficient halves, shooting the ball with purpose while also providing flow in the offensive attack. In the 84th minute, another Prairie Fire goal sealed the deal on a game that already looked to be solidly in Knox's corner, and the game ended with the final score of 3-0.

"Today was a great day for us," said head coach Taylor Houck. "We played well and had the opportunity to perfect our style of play. This was a good win to head into conference with and we're excited to keep pushing forward."

The Prairie Fire will attempt to go on their first winning streak of the season this Saturday when they host the University of Chicago at 2 p.m.
