Box Score LAKE FOREST, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's basketball team moved to 8-0 in the Midwest Conference with a 68-59 win over Lake Forest on Saturday. Overall the win marks their sixth straight and moves the team to 13-4 overall, already surpassing their win total from last season.
Knox jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Foresters kept the game within four points for the entire period. The Prairie Fire led 21-17 heading into the second quarter.
Five minutes into the second quarter the teams were tied 29-29, but Knox began pulling away and earned a 39-32 lead by halftime.
The Foresters scored first in the second half, but Knox soon continued adding to their lead and took a 52-40 lead into the final period.
The Prairie Fire maintained their lead throughout the fourth quarter to cruise to victory.
Catessa Duran led Knox with 14 points. Sophie Elstone racked up a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Kristin Herndon chipped in 11 points.
"Another gritty road performance for us," said head coach Kira Mowen. "Lake Forest played very well today, but we stepped up when we needed to once again. We still have a long road ahead of us, but we are playing very well right now. Our challenge now is to continue improving and not be content with what we have done so far."
The Prairie Fire return to action as they host Grinnell on January 25.
