Football Drops Turkey Bowl to Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Illinois - The Prairie Fire football team dropped the Turkey Bowl to Monmouth 42-7 on Saturday afternoon.

The Fighting Scots scored once in the first quarter and once in the second quarter to take a 14-0 lead into halftime.

Kaile Williams put Knox on the board early in the second half when he rushed for a 57-yard touchdown to cut the Monmouth lead to just one score.

The Fighting Scots then scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to take a commanding lead. Monmouth scored once more in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter and held on for the win.

Williams led Knox with 90 rushing yards to finish the season with 1,082 yards rushing, the top mark in the Midwest Conference. Izayiah Hawes added 66 yards receiving and 49 yards rushing.

Kolton Krutsinger led the Prairie Fire defense with nine tackles. Two of his tackles were for a loss, including a sack. Jon Sarich add eight tackles. He had 3.5 tackles for a loss, including 1.5 sacks.

"We knew Monmouth would be a tough game," said head coach Aaron Willits. "We executed our game plan pretty well in the early going, but Monmouth was able to break through in the third quarter."
