GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's basketball team defeated Principia 91-66 on Monday night to move to 3-0 on the season.
Knox outscored the Panthers 29-15 in the opening quarter to take a double-digit lead early. The Prairie Fire scored 16 points in the second quarter for a 45-26 lead at the half.
Principia kept pace with Knox in the third quarter with both teams scoring 24 points, but the Panthers could not gain any ground. The Prairie Fire closed out the game with 22 points in the fourth period to secure the victory.
Kylee Callahan led Knox with 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting. She added eight rebounds and seven assists. Fellow starters Nyah Daniels (15), Sarina Dacio (14), Loraya Rocha (13), and Bria Medina (13) all scored double-digits as well. Dacio and Daniels chipped in six rebounds apiece.
"We came out on fire in the first quarter," said head coach Seth McDowell. "We need to play like that all the time. We are playing well, but I think we still have another gear and will need it with a tough stretch of games coming up."
The Prairie Fire return to action on November 15 as they travel to Coe for another non-conference matchup.
