GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's basketball team picked up where they left off last season with a 97-43 victory over Dominican in their season opener on Wednesday night.
Knox scored the first six points of the night and never looked back. The Prairie Fire held a 24-11 lead after one quarter.
The Stars scored first in the second period, but Knox pulled away by 31 at the half.
The Prairie Fire saved their best quarter for the second half, outscoring Dominican 27-11 in the third period.
Knox cruised to victory with a 20-13 advantage in the final quarter.
Last year's Midwest Conference Newcomer of the Year, Kylee Callahan, paced the Prairie Fire with 21 points. She also grabbed five rebounds, nabbed four steals, and dished out three assists.
Sarina Dacio chipped in 19 points on 4-of-6 shooting from long-range. Nyah Daniels hit four treys as well to finish with 17 points.
First-years Bria Medina (15 points) and Sarah Finley (12) also added double-digit scoring performances.
Brianna Arizmendi also hauled in 10 boards for the Prairie Fire.
"This was a real team effort," said head coach Seth McDowell. "It is always nice to win on opening night, but it was great to see the energy that we brought from the outset. A great first win, but now we get back to work to build on this first game victory."
Knox will travel to Westminster College on November 11 for their first road game of the season.
