Women's Basketball Picks Up Win Over St. Mary's of Maryland

BAYAMON, Puerto Rico - The Prairie Fire women's basketball team earned a 76-55 win over St. Mary's College of Maryland to kick off the Puerto Rico Clasico on Monday morning.

Knox jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the first quarter, but the Seahawks soon rallied back to take a 17-11 lead.

With 6:44 left in the first half, the teams were tied 25-25. St. Mary's held a slight 35-31 edge heading into halftime.

Knox tied the game 35-35 early in the second half and then took a 50-43 lead. Knox led 50-47 heading into the final period.

The Prairie Fire dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the Seahawks 26-8, en route to the victory.

Nyah Daniels led Knox with 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Bria Medina added 26 points and eight rebounds. Kylee Callahan racked up 11 points and 16 boards to earn a double-double.

"We started out sluggish, but really turned it on in the second half," said head coach Seth McDowell. "The game against Aurora and the second half today show what we are capable of, now it's just finding that consistency to do this every game. We have a lot of season left and I'm excited to see what we can do. We have a very tough game coming up tomorrow, but we will give it our all and see what happens."

The Prairie Fire return to action as they battle Manhattanville College on December 19 to conclude the Puerto Rico Clasico.
