Baseball Rallies to Beat Colby-Sawyer

DAVENPORT, Florida - The Prairie Fire baseball team rallied to defeat Colby-Sawyer 12-11 on Friday.

Knox trailed 10-2 in the eighth inning, but put together good at bats in the last two innings to complete the victory. The Prairie Fire pushed across six runs in the top of the eighth, but surrendered another run in the bottom half to go into the final inning down by three.

In the top of the ninth, Evan Laws drove in a run with a bases loaded hit by pitch and then pinch runner Andrew Garrett scored on a wild pitch. Nick Stan came up with a big, two-out single through the left side to score the tying and winning runs.

Saverio Scumaci picked up the win on the mound, giving up one run in three innings of work. He set down the side in order in the ninth to secure the win.

Jason Clark, Troy Brandt, and Brady Bertrand each finished with two hits for the Prairie Fire. Stan finished with three RBI, while Clark, Braden Ogden, and Luke Mathieu each tallied two RBI. Clark knocked two doubles, while Brandt hit a double and a triple.

"It was great to come away with a win today," said associate head coach James Clark. "We still made some mistakes and should have won by more so we should be happy, but not satisfied with the position we put ourselves in. It was nice to see the resilience and the will to make it a close game at the end."

Knox will return to action on March 18 against Mount St. Joseph.
