GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire baseball team dropped a conference game to Beloit 13-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The teams played a scoreless first inning, but the Buccaneers broke out for six runs in the second inning to take an early lead. Beloit scored a run in the third and a run in the fifth, before scoring five more in the sixth to earn the seven inning victory.
Cole Shepherd broke up the no-hitter in the sixth inning for Knox and Etienne Thomas added a hit in the seventh.
"On paper we played pretty solid defense, but mental errors cost us some runs. We have to limit runs when things don't go our way and find a way to get out of innings," said associate head coach James Clark. "At times we hit the ball hard and just didn't have a lot to show for it, but overall we had too many popouts. We will work on turning things around tomorrow."
Knox travels to Beloit for a doubleheader on April 2.
