GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire baseball team dropped a Midwest Conference doubleheader to Lawrence on Saturday.
The Vikings struck early and often in game one with six runs in the first inning and three more in the second. Knox scored two runs in the bottom of the second, but Lawrence added four runs in the fourth, four in the fifth, and ten in the sixth to take a commanding lead. The Prairie Fire plated three in the seventh, but the Vikings cruised to a 29-5 victory.
Knox took a 2-1 lead after one inning in game two on an RBI single by Jason Clark and a steal of home by Evan Laws on the double steal. Lawrence took control from there with three runs in the second and six runs in the third. The Vikings won 16-2 in seven innings.
Andrew Garrett led Knox with three hits on the day. Cole Shepherd added two hits.
"We didn't really play well in any facet of the game today," said associate head coach James Clark. "We didn't put the ball in play with any authority and we got behind early in both games. We walked way too many and got behind in the count too often. Our usual good defense also let us down today."
Knox returns to action on April 30 as they host Lawrence for the last game of the three game series.
