CHICAGO, Illinois - The Prairie Fire football team dropped a 63-0 conference game to University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon.
The Maroons scored three touchdowns and tacked on a field goal in the first quarter to take an early 24-0 lead.
Chicago added three more scores in the second quarter to head into halftime with a 44-0 advantage.
The Maroons added a touchdown in the third quarter and two more in the fourth to seal the victory.
Kaile Williams completed 9-of-18 passes for 98 yards. He added 32 rushing yards. Niko Powe reeled in five catches for 57 yards.
Collin Finnigsmeier led the Knox defense with seven tackles. Jon Sarich added six tackles, including a sack. Phillip Strahle also picked up a sack.
"We ran into a hungry University of Chicago football team and we were not ready to play," said head coach Aaron Willits. "That falls on me as the head coach. We can't change the outcome now, adversity just hit us square in the chest. We can only get back to work, learn from this, and make the necessary adjustment for this team to be successful and our program to keep moving forward. I told our team after the game everything happens for a reason. We all need to be humble enough to find our role in finding the reason why and fixing the things we control."
The Prairie Fire will have a bye this coming weekend before returning to action at home as they host Lake Forest for Former Assistant Coach Appreciation Day.
