GALESBURG, Illinois - The Knox women's basketball team defeated Lake Forest College 79-67 on Saturday Night for Basketball Homecoming. The game began with the unveiling of a new banner placed in Memorial Gym honoring the historic season of the '22-'23 Prairie Fire women's basketball team,
The first quarter began with an early 4-4 tie. but soon turned into a back and forth battle between the two teams as they exchanged leads. The Prairie Fire managed to pull away leading the Foresters 21-16 at the end of the first quarter.
Knox stayed ahead for the whole second quarter pushing their lead to 37-30 going into half-time.
The Prairie Fire jumped out with the first five points of the third quarter. Knox continued ahead with a 19 point lead nearing the end of the third quarter. The third quarter ended with the Fire ahead by 11 and a score of 60-49.
The Foresters quickly cut the Prairie Fire lead nearly in half with the help of a 5-0 run, leaving the score at 64-59 with 7:34 left to play in the fourth quarter. Knox took control in the remainder of the fourth quarter and secured another victory.
Bria Medina led the Prairie Fire with 24 points. Sarina Dacio and Nyah Daniels added on 12 points apiece.
"We played aggressive today, and it payed off for us" said Head Coach Seth McDowell. "We had a few rough patches, but we recovered well and managed to keep ourselves focused and in turn able to push right past Lake Forest."
The Prairie Fire will travel to Grinnell College on January 23rd for their next match-up.
