MONMOUTH, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's basketball team earned an 84-67 victory over Monmouth on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams got off to a slow start, but the Fighting Scots led 12-6 midway through the first quarter. Knox stormed back to take a 20-16 lead with just over a minute left in the period. Monmouth tied the game at 20-20 heading into the second quarter.

Knox outscored Monmouth 22-10 in the second period to take a commanding 42-30 lead at halftime.

The Fighting Scots were ready coming out of halftime, keeping pace with the Prairie Fire with another 20-20 quarter.

Monmouth pulled within seven points early in the final period, but Knox finished on a 20-10 run to bring home the win.

Sarina Dacio led the Prairie Fire with 23 points thanks to a 3-for-6 showing from long-range. Nyah Daniels shot 7-of-12 from the field to add 20 points. She also grabbed eight rebounds. Bria Medina knocked down 11-of-12 from the charity stripe to pitch in 17 points. Kylee Callahan tallied 10 points.

"We started off a little slow in both halves, but played well when it mattered to come away with the victory," said head coach Seth McDowell. "We definitely need to clean up the turnovers going into this final stretch of the season."

Knox will return to action on January 31 as they host Lawrence.
