BELOIT, Wis. — Sophomore Kestervens Dera scored all three goals for the Knox College men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon at Beloit in a Midwestern Conference game as the Prairie Fire (5-7-2, 2-2-1 MWC) blanked the Buccaneers (2-13-0, 1-4-0), 3-0. Dera's hat trick is the first for Knox in two years.
The Prairie Fire dominated the action the entire 90 minutes, firing off 29 shots (11 on goal) to just three for host Beloit. Fifth-year Nicolas Lantzendorffer had to turn away just one shot to record his third shutout of the season and 16th of his career.
Though Knox had the upper hand throughout, and enjoyed an 18-1 shot advantage in the first half, it took nearly 40 minutes before Dera dented the scoreboard for a 1-0 lead, with a little help from sophomore Tomás Ramos. Dera went back to work after the intermission, scoring unassisted in the 54th minute and again with a little more than five minutes to play to complete his hat trick.
- The Prairie Fire are undefeated in their last 11 showdowns with Beloit going 9-0-2.
- Alex White was the last Knox player to score three goals in a game, accomplishing the feat in a 4-2 win over Monmouth on Oct. 5, 2022.
- Dera leads the Prairie Fire with five goals despite having played in just half of the 14 games due to injury.
- With the victory, Knox is now in a tie for third in the Midwest Conference standings with Cornell College, a team it beat four days ago, 2-1; the top four teams will play in the conference tournament on Nov. 8-9.
Knox returns home to take on Monmouth College (2-9-2, 0-4-1 MWC) on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. on Jorge Prats Field. Live video and stats will be available through the official athletics website of Knox College, PrairieFire.Knox.edu.
