Cross Country Runs in Final Tuneup Before Conference Championships

The men and women took to the trails at Saukie Golf Course

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — In the final race of the fall prior to the Midwest Conference Championships on Nov. 2, the Knox College men's and women's cross country team ran at the Augustana Interregional at Saukie Golf Course on Saturday. The Prairie Fire men combined to place 19th in a 30-team field while the women finished 21st out of 25.

Junior Lance Miller just missed out of placing among the top 25 in the field of 407 runners, recording a time of 26:23.3 in the 8K race to come in 26th. First-year Misha Ratner ran his best time of his rookie campaign at 27:37.3, good for 117th. Another PR came from junior Elliott Varnum who cracked 30 minutes for the second time in his career in 29:40.0. Other scoring runners for Knox were sophomore Evan McClusky (28:50.7) and sophomore Max Lawrence (32:10.4).

Sophomore Cecilia Goodin was at the front for the Prairie Fire women in the 6K race, crossing the tape in 25:00.5 to place 43rd out of 264 runners. Like the men, the women had a pair of PRs with senior Franny Hilliard finished up in 26:40.0 (132nd) and sophomore Alenis Rios in 29:04.3. First-year Mary Stockdale (28:46.1) and junior Eileen Sheetz (29:38.4) contributed to the team score as well.

  • The Wartburg men won the 8K with each of its five runners placing in the top seven, including the individual champion, Dawson Fricke, with a time of 25:30.8.
  • Washington University took the women's title with all five runners in the top nine, led by Lexi Brown, who won the race in 22:12.3.

The Midwest Conference Championships will be hosted by Lawrence University on Nov. 2 in Appleton, Wisconsin. The women's race will begin at 11 a.m. followed by the men at noon.
