GRINNELL, Iowa — The Midwest Conference announced its weekly soccer award winners today, and once again, Knox College forward Kestervens Dera was selected as its Men's Soccer Offensive Performer of the Week. He earned the honor for the first time in his career just last week.
A sophomore from Palm Bay, Florida, Dera scored four goals and assisted on another in two Prairie Fire victories over the past seven days. He began his week by providing a helper for his teammate Adrian Segura, who returned the favor less than 10 minutes later as Dera scored Knox's fourth goal in a 5-2 win over Monmouth. On Saturday for Senior Day, however, he stole the show by scoring all three goals to lift the Prairie Fire to a 3-2 victory over Lawrence, the fourth straight win for the team.
The hat trick was Dera's second in three games, coming exactly one week apart. For the season, he leads the team with nine goals despite missing seven games this fall, and his averaging one goal and 2.11 points per game.
Knox (7-7-2, 4-2-1 MWC) will play it final game of the regular season at Ripon on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. The game will likely have conference tournament implications for both teams with only one qualifying for the four-team event. Live video and stats of the contest will be accessible through the official athletics website of Knox College, PrairieFire.Knox.edu.
