GRINNELL, Iowa ­— The Midwest Conference announced its weekly awards in football this afternoon, and Knox College first-year place kicker Fernando Torres was chosen as the Special Teams Performer of the Week in football. This is the third weekly honor in this category for the Prairie Fire this season and first for Torres.

Torres, a native of Ramona, California, converted all five of his extra-point attempts at Lawrence University on Saturday in a narrow 35-34 victory. Since taking over the place-kicking duties during the second half of the season, Torres has not missed a single PAT in 13 tries. He also kicked off six times for the Prairie Fire, an average of 55 yards per boot, and each one was fair caught.

Other Knox players to earn this honor this fall have been senior Isaac Mora who blocked an extra-point attempt in the season-opening 7-6 win over Eureka (to prove how important those PATs are), and first-year return man Jayvon Bolds who set a program record for kickoff return yards (257) in a single game against Illinois College on Oct. 19.

The Prairie Fire (3-6, 2-6 MWC) will conclude the season with Senior Day and the annual Bronze Turkey Game on Saturday with Monmouth (7-2, 7-1 MWC) invading Stisser Field at the Knosher Bowl.
