WHITEWATER, Wis. — The Knox College volleyball team opened its 2024 season with a loss in straight sets to Augsburg University on Friday evening at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Invite, held at the Kris Russell Volleyball Arena. The Auggies evened their record at 1-1 having lost earlier in the day, defeating the Prairie Fire (0-1) by scores of 25-14, 25-14, 25-10.
Knox had 21 kills in the match, six courtesy of senior Caroline Wolters and five more from first-year Zoe Thunhurst, but Augsburg doubled that total with 42 while posting a .415 attack percentage. Wolters filled up her stat sheet with a team-best 10 digs plus helped out on the Prairie Fire's lone block of the night.
- Knox opened the match with an early 5-4 lead before Augsburg rattled off six straight points, and later in the set added a seven-point run.
- In the second set, the Prairie Fire had its best attack percentage of the match at .182, but so did the Auggies at .542.
- Augsburg took command of the third set by jumping out to a 13-3 lead before finishing off its victory.
- The Auggies' Bri Van Well led all players with 12 kills.
Knox has two more matches at the invitational on Saturday, taking on fellow Midwest Conference member Lake Forest at noon before squaring off with host UW-Whitewater at 2 p.m. Each match will be streamed live with live stats, both of which can be accessed through the official Knox College athletics website, PrairieFire.Knox.edu.
