Dominican Prevails over Men’s Soccer

The Stars held a 23-7 shot advantage in the game

RIVER FOREST, Ill. — The 2023 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament champion, Dominican University (Ill.), played the role of rude host at West Campus Field on Wednesday afternoon, handing the visiting Knox College men's soccer team a 4-0 defeat. The Prairie Fire (1-1-1) suffered their first defeat of the young season, while the Stars (1-2) earned their first victory.

Little more than five minutes had elapsed when Dominican tallied its first goal. By halftime the Stars' lead had increased to 3-0 thanks to a pair of goals from John Cronnolly within four minutes of each other.

  • Sophomore Kestervens Dera fired off two of Knox's seven shots on the day, including the only one on goal, which came in the 14th minute of action.
  • Goalkeepers Nicolas Lantzendorffer and Diogo Pereirra split time in net for the Prairie Fire with the former playing the first half saving four shots and the latter the second with two saves of his own.
  • Fifth-year senior Eusebio King-Mills also had two shots for Knox.

The Prairie Fire are back in action on Friday at 3 p.m. for their fourth consecutive game on the road to start the season, this time at Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois. Knox has won all five meetings over the past decade with the Beavers, outscoring them by a combined 20-3 margin.
