GALESBURG, Ill. — The Knox College athletics department today announced its Male and Female Athletes of the Week for events that occurred between Sept. 29-Oct. 5, and a pair of underclassmen took home the honors — sophomore Chrisangel Djambazian of the men's soccer team and first-year Elsie Conwell of the women's cross country squad.
A defender from Port St. Lucie, Florida, Djambazian played a key role in the Prairie Fire's 1-0 win over Illinois College last week, scoring the game's only goal. His tally came in the 77th minute to break the scoreless duel, and not only was it his first collegiate goal, it was his first shot for Knox as well. In addition, Djambazian's work on defense helped limit the Blueboys to just two shots on goal over the ninety minutes.
Conwell, a product of Taft High School out of Chicago, has led the women's cross country team in every race this fall, and last weekend's 6K at Wartburg was no exception. Her time of 26:00.2 paced the Prairie Fire by more than a minute, and she already is among the fastest 20 Knox women in the 6K ever in her young career.
The Knox Athletes of the Week will be announced every Tuesday afternoon throughout the athletic calendar.
