MONMOUTH, Ill. — The Knox College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Grinnell Invitational on Saturday with each team placing 10th in the field. Both the men and women had a second-place finisher in their respective 3000 meter races to highlight the meet for the Prairie Fire.
Running the 3000m for the first time, senior Frannie Hilliard crossed the tape in 11:45.83, beating out all but one of the eight other entrants in the event. Her time just missed making Knox's top-10 performers list as well but did earn the team eight points.
On the men's side, junior Lance Miller was just narrowly edged at the tape for the 3000m gold with his time of 8:47.84, picking up eight points as well. He was only 1.02 seconds off the pace set by William Penn's D'Artagnon Beaver.
First-year Shari Willingham picked up four points in the women's high jump, clearing 1.27 meters (4 feet 2 inches).
Two men's relay teams also scored for the Prairie Fire at the meet. The 1600 meter sprint medley team consisting of first-year Ryan Lautzenheiser, senior Anthony Vazquez, first-year Chrisangel Djambiazian and Miller finished the race in 3:49.25 to claim third, which provided six points. In the 4x400 meter relay, senior Jacob Anderson replaced Miller in that foursome and helped them finish eighth in 3:46.33 and earn four points.
Knox heads to Illinois College next Saturday, Feb. 8, for the Jim Green Invitational.
