GRINNELL, Iowa – Lance Miller continued his assault on the Knox College indoor track and field record book this weekend at the Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Invitational, setting a pair of program records.
The senior demolished both his mile and 3000-meter school records over the weekend, while also setting a bit of MWC history as well.
On Friday night, Miller set the school record in the mile, winning the conference title in 4:16.08. Miller's time not only broke a school record but also set a new MWC Indoor Meet record.
On Saturday, Miller was not done, breaking his own school record in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:31.09, good for third overall.
As an individual, Miller accounted for 16 of Knox's 19 team points. The Knox men's other scorer on the track was the 4x200 relay team of Ryan Latzenhiser, Izayiah Hawes, Kneko Vazquez, and Deangelo Willis, which finished seventh.
In the field, Knox also received a scoring effort from Stevan Dzolic, whose best effort of 15.11 meters (49 feet, seven inches) is the fifth-best in school history.
In the women's event, Knox College also celebrated another school record in the mile. Freshman Elsie Conwell set a new top program mark, running the event in 5:27.14, good for 10th overall. Conwell wasn't done with the Knox record book, running a personal best in the 800 meters. Conwell's 2:29.22 is now the school's 10th-fastest time in the event.
Knox's lone scorer came in the throws as Stephanie Nelson finished eighth with a season-best effort of 14.12 meters (46-04). Nelson added an 11th in the shot put, with a best throw of 10.65 meters.
In the 60 meters, Delylah Briscoe ran a season-best time of 8.35 seconds, moving her into 10th all-time in program history. Briscoe was also 12th in the 200, running a 28.21.
