ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — The Knox College track and field teams competed at the Meet of Champions, hosted by Augustana College, with a number of athletes reaching personal and season bests throughout the day.
The lone top-10 finish in the first day of events was turned in by first-year Shari Willingham, who set a personal record in the women's high jump by clearing 1.49 meters (4 feet 10.5 inches), claiming ninth. That height also places her among Knox's all-time top-10 performers (eighth).
Sophomore Nalwanga Nsubuga also etched her name among the Prairie Fire's top-10 performers in the women's discus on Thursday with a throw of 33.91 meters (111 feet 3 inches), putting her 10th on that list.
The top finishes for the men were turned in by senior A.J. Vazquez and junior Lance Miller, both of whom finished 11th in an event. Vazquez leapt 13.28 meters (43 feet 7 inches) in the triple jump, his best outdoor showing ever and seventh in Knox's top-10 performers. Miller, meanwhile, crossed the tape in the men's 1500 meters in 4:00.41, a season best.
- First-year Altynai Ruslanova set two personal records today, breaking 15 seconds in the women's 100 meters for the first time (14.91) while also posting her best 200 meter time (31.19).
- Sophomore Cecilia Goodin had her best 800 meter run this spring in 2:29.54, placing 25th among the 63 runners.
The Prairie Fire will next host a meet at Turner Track at Trevor Field on the Knox campus on April 26.
