APPLETON, Wis. — At the conclusion of the Midwest Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the league coaches selected the major awards winners for the season, and Knox College junior Lance Miller received the Elite 20 Award, presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing in the championship.
Miller, a biochemistry major from Mascoutah, Illinois, reached the podium in two events at the outdoor championships hosted by Lawrence University, placing second in the 5000 meters and third in the 1500 meters during the two-day event. He narrowly missed breaking his own school record in the 5000 with a time of 14:46.43, less than a quarter second shy of his best. He also posted a season-best time (by nearly four seconds) in the 1500 at 3:56.42, a mere 1.19 seconds behind the winner.
