GALESBURG, Ill. — The College Sports Communicators today announced its Academic All-District Teams for softball across each of the NCAA Divisions and NAIA, and Knox College had four players earn recognition for Division III — senior Maddie Poetzinger, junior Taylor Goudschaal, and sophomores Charlie Davison and Janet Lentini.
Poetzinger, an elementary education major from Orland Park, Illinois, split time between shortstop and third base, and was named to the All-Midwest Conference Second team as a utility player. In league play, she hit .324 while leading the Prairie Fire with two triples and six RBIs, and struck out just once in 37 at-bats. For the full season, she led the team in seven offensive categories, including doubles (2), triples (2), runs scored (12), RBIs (12) and walks (16). Poetzinger ended her four years at Knox having started every game (137) with 110 hits, 18 doubles, four triples, 48 runs and 51 RBIs.
A transfer from Harper College in Palatine, Illinois, Goudschaal manned the corner infield positions during the 2025 campaign for the Prairie Fire. The psychology major tied Poetzinger for the team lead in RBIs while playing in every game, hitting .189 with a double, nine runs and a pair of stolen bases.
Davison, a pitcher from Champaign, Illinois, was one of the workhorses of the pitching staff, throwing 60.0 innings over 18 appearances, including 12 starts. While she has yet to declare a major, she declared her dominance in a four-inning relief stint against Mount Mary University in which she twirled four shutout stanzas for her best outing of the season.
A second education and English literature double major, Lentini was unable to play until April but quickly established herself as the top pitcher on the Knox staff. She led the team with 20 strikeouts despite throwing the fewest innings and completed four of her nine starts in the circle while posting an ERA of 8.22. At the plate, she rapped out three hits in 14 at-bats, including a double against Beloit and a two-run single to help her own cause in a 13-9 win over Mount Mary.
