GALESBURG, Ill. — The College Sports Communicators today announced its Academic All-District Teams for softball across each of the NCAA Divisions and NAIA, and Knox College had four players earn recognition for Division III — junior Thomas Wilmot, and sophomores Aidan McMurtrie and Nicholas Nitti.
Wilmot, an outfielder majoring in business and management, hit .255 this past spring over 32 games (30 starts) while leading the Prairie Fire with three home runs. The native of Suwanee, Georgia, also had eight doubles and 18 RBIs in 98 at-bats. In an 8-6 road win at Lawrence, Wilmot launched his first career homer, a three-run shot, to complete the scoring and provide the winning margin. He added another home run that weekend and was named the Knox Male Athlete of the Week for going 5-for-9 with a double, two long balls and four RBIs.
Hailing from Seattle, Washington, McMurtrie is a computer science major who started all but one game during the season, all on the right side of the infield but primarily at second base. He finished the year batting .304 with team highs of nine doubles and 13 multi-hit games while ranking second on the squad in hits (41), runs (27), RBIs (28) and stolen bases (16). He also enjoyed a streak of reaching base in 17 straight games, the longest of any Prairie Fire batter.
The team's primary designated hitter, Nitti is a political science major from Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Hitting from the left side, he sported a .319 average while reaching base at a .446 clip as he drew twice as many walks (18) as he struck out (9). Nitti scored 24 runs, drove in 15 and swatted his first career home run in his biggest game of the year, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, his four-bagger, three runs and three RBIs to lead Knox to an 18-8 win over rival Monmouth.
