FULTON, Mo. — The match at Westminster College began well for the Knox College volleyball team with the Prairie Fire jumping out to a first-set lead, only to have the Blue Jays battle back and claim the contest in three sets, 25-20, 25-14, 25-14. Westminster improved to 12-4 on the season while the Prairie Fire dropped to 0-12.
Kills by junior Lydia Karli, sophomore Maria Jabor Jahn and junior Elle Haddon, along with a service ace by sophomore Bri Holland, allowed Knox to take an early 7-2 lead. The lead remained in the Prairie Fire's hands through 15-13 before tied the game, though Knox went back on top thanks to a service error. But the Blue Jays took the next two points, and when senior Amelia Gamez knotted the score at 17 apiece with a kill, the hosts took control from there to secure the set.
In the second set, Westminster kept the Prairie Fire at bay, and even when Knox strung together five consecutive points, the deficit was too great to overcome. The Blue Jays won the final six points to grab a 2-0 advantage. That run continued into the start of the third set as the Fire fell behind, 5-0. Westminster never looked back and finished off the sweep.
- Haddon led Knox with eight of the team's 19 kills in the match while hitting at a season-high .286 clip.
- Sophomore Rebeca Hernandez-Rivera dished out 10 assists while her classmate, Zoe Thunhurst, led the Prairie Fire with 14 digs.
- Knox served up eight service aces in the match, three courtesy of junior Mayra Diaz.
