Box Score GALESBURG, Ill. – The Knox Prairie Fire delivered their most productive offensive performance of the season Saturday afternoon, scoring 28 points in a 56-28 setback against Illinois College while producing their highest point total in nearly two years.
Knox controlled the tempo throughout much of the first half, using a strong rushing attack and a pair of lengthy touchdown drives to keep pace with the Blueboys. A 16-play, 72-yard drive that consumed more than nine minutes ended with a touchdown pass from
Karter Krutsinger to
Marcus Carter, and an 11-play, 91-yard march in the second quarter was capped by a two-yard touchdown run from Krutsinger.
The Prairie Fire continued to answer after halftime. Down seven early in the third quarter, Balthazar broke free for a 63-yard touchdown run, tying the score at 21-21 and highlighting a ground game that finished with 227 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Balthazar led the way with 115 yards and two touchdowns on just 14 carries while averaging 8.2 yards per attempt. Krutsinger added a rushing score and 41 yards on the ground while also throwing for a touchdown.
Special teams and the defense delivered several bright spots as well. Fallacara was perfect on all four extra-point attempts, while the defensive unit was led by
Aaron Estes' 10 tackles.
Ryan Lautzenhiser added eight stops and
Jalen Brown contributed seven tackles to pace the Prairie Fire effort.
Knox stayed competitive behind its ball-control offense, but turnovers and penalties ultimately proved too much to overcome. Despite the final score, the Prairie Fire showcased a physical rushing attack and several standout individual performances that provide momentum heading into the season's final game against rival Monmouth College next week at the Knosher Bowl.
