GALESBURG – The Knox College men capped a 2-0 week with an 86-74 win over Beloit.
The Prairie Fire (9-12, 5-7) rode the hot hands of
Noah Campbell (24 points) and
Josh Stewart (18 points) to the win. Campbell added eight rebounds and six assists, both team highs.
Knox had a quick start, jumping out to a 12-2 lead, but Beloit was able to hang around and keep it close, cutting the Prairie Fire's lead to three at halftime, 32-29.
In the second half, Beloit came out hot, taking its largest lead of the game, 40-36, at the 17:08 mark.
But Knox was able to pick it up, going on a 19-3 run, taking a 55-43 lead at the 10:43 mark. Beloit managed to hang around, but the Prairie Fire never let the Buccaneers get within seven points the rest of the contest.
Willie Rogers III and
Carl Dortch each finished in double figures, with Rogers III scoring 13 and Dortch adding 11.
Russell Wright added nine.
As a team, Knox shot 50 percent from the field, going 28-56. The difference came at the free throw line, where the Prairie Fire went 27-38 to Beloit's 14-21. Knox also outrebounded the Buccaneers 44-35.
Knox is next on the road at Monmouth on Wednesday before playing the home finale on Valentine's Day against Ripon. The game serves as the men's Senior Day, when seniors
Russell Wright and
Carl Dortch will be honored.
