The Knox College baseball team (1-10) dropped a pair of games in Florida on Thursday, falling to Simpson College.
In the second game, Knox lost to Simpson 16-3. Tyler Kemp paced the offense with a pair of hits, two RBI, and a run scored.Â
Knox trailed 5-0 after the top of the fourth, but Kemp's two-run home run plated himself and Aidan McMurtrie, making it a 5-2 game. Knox would not get any closer, unfortunately, as Simpson tallied four runs in the fifth, four in the sixth, and three in the seventh.Â
In the opener, the Prairie Fire fell to Simpson, 11-7. Knox had a strong start, taking a 4-0 lead after a four-run top of the second. After a Tyler Kemp double scored Knox's first run of the game, Owen Shannon followed with a three-run homer to left field.
Simpson cut the Knox lead to 4-3 with a three-run second, but the Prairie Fire answered with two runs in the third. Miles Hoops doubled to send Hayden Derlein to third. Derlein came around to score on a wild pitch, and Hoops scored on Thomas Wilmot's sacrifice fly.Â
Knox remained ahead until the bottom of the fifth when Simpson scored seven runs, taking an 11-6 lead. The Prairie Fire scored the game's final run as Kemp scored on Tyler Theim's single.
Knox's next game is on Friday, taking on Salem State at 11 a.m.
