GALESBURG, IL - On a beautiful afternoon, Jorge Prats Field played host to the Kohawks and Prairie Fire. Knox grabbed two goal advantage in the middle stages of the first half, and Coe responded with one of their own in the second half but the Prairie Fire relentlessly guarded their lead on their way to a 2-1 victory over Coe.
Darby Wallig made two saves for the Prairie Fire in the first 20 minutes of action, allowing Reagan Toney to bury the game's first goal in the 26th minute of action. It did not take Knox long to double their lead when Analeis Ming put one in the back of the net seven minutes later.
Wallig picked up another save before the halftime break as the Prairie Fire took a two goal advantage into the midway point.
Coe worked hard in the second half to try to cut their deficit, but Wallig and the Knox defense did not budge. Wallig made five saves in the opening 25 minutes of the second half before finally allowing the Kohawks to get on the scoreboard in the 76th minute.
Knox was able to hold on to their one goal lead in the remaining 14 minutes to claim a Saturday afternoon victory at home.
Wallig was required to make one more save in the late stages, upping her total to eight on the day.
Toney, the freshman from St. Louis, Mo., scored the first goal of her college career in the victory, and Ming got her second in as many games.
Tuesday night the Prairie Fire will hit the road to take on Illinois Wesleyan at 7:00 p.m.
