Box Score

After winning three straight matches, the Prairie Fire women's soccer team has struggled to score and is in the midst of a four-match losing streak.

Knox had a 5-3 record after winning 2-1 at Robert Morris University - Springfield on September 22.  Unfortunately, the Fire has lost three Midwest Conference matches and a non-conference contest during that rough 11-day stretch that has seen the Knox get outscored 15-3.

The losing streak began September 25 at home against Grinnell College.  The Pioneers defeated Knox 3-1.  The Prairie Fire's lone goal was by junior Emma Swanson (West Des Moines, Iowa).

Knox boarded a bus and traveled to Mt. Vernon, Iowa to play Cornell College the next day (September 26).  Things looked good early or Nikki Ayers' squad, which scored the first two goals of the match - by Swanson - to take a 2-0 lead into the 65th minute.  But

Cornell scored three straight goals over the next 30 minutes, including a 10 minute overtime period, to escape with a 3-2 win.

Knox could not score last weekend in a pair of MWC home matches.  Lawrence University (4-6, 3-1 MWC) scored once in the first half, then added two more goals over the last 45 minutes to claim a 3-0 win Saturday at Jorge Prats Field.  The Vikings outshot the Prairie Fire 21-6, including a 10-3 shots on goal advantage.  Junior Mollie Strawn (Charlotte, North Carolina) made her first start in the net for Knox, recording seven saves.  Cassandra Burke had three saves in goal for Lawrence to earn the shutout.
