Edgewood Defeats Men's Basketball Team in Hawaii

The Prairie Fire men's basketball team had business to take care of before enjoying the many sights of warm and sunny Hawaii.Lukas Shaw '13 The team arrived on the island preparing to play Edgewood College of Madison, Wisconsin in its first game on Saturday.

The Prairie Fire got off to a rough start in the game against Edgewood and never recovered, falling 83-56.  The Eagles (7-4) jumped out to a 14-0 lead before Knox sophomore Lukas Shaw (Portland, Oregon) scored in the paint at the 14:59 mark to put his team on the board.

Edgewood shot a red hot 78 percent in the first half, connecting on 21-of-27 shots, including 3-of-5 from three point range, to take a commanding 53-31 lead at the intermission.  The Prairie Fire made 12-of-24 shots (50 percent) in the first half and 4-of-9 from three point range.  The Eagles held an 8-3 advantage from the foul line.

The Eagles continued their hot shooting in the second half (56.5 percent) and wound up 34-of-50, or 68 percent for the game.  Edgewood made 11-of-13 free throws and outrebounded the Prairie Fire 31-16.  The Fire made 24-of-52 shots overall (46 percent) and attempted just five free throws, making three.

Shaw and junior Ben Wetherbee (Sydney, Australia) each scored 14 points to lead the Prairie Fire in scoring.  Cashton Craig poured in 24 for Edgewood.
