A flurry by Franklin College in the 80th minute lifted the Grizzlies past Knox College 4-2 in a non-conference match Saturday at Jorge Prats Field.

Neither team scored in the first 45 minutes of play.  Senior Kathryn Sain (Portland, Oregon/Woodrow Wilson) put the Prairie Fire on the board first at the 46:33 mark when she found the back of the net, assisted by junior Emma Swanson (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley).  Franklin's Ashley Roell responded at the end of the 49th minute by dropping in an unassisted goal to tie the match at 1-1.

The Grizzlies (3-0-1) took their first lead at 2-1 when Natalie Downs scored unassisted 60:15 into the match.  Knox (1-2) came back in the 73rd minute on a goal by Swanson to forge a 2-2 tie.  Unfortunately for the Prairie Fire, that was the last time Franklin goal keeper Chelsea Parks would surrender a score.

The game-winner turned out to be a goal by Alicia LaBonne at 83:20 for Franklin.  The Grizzlies added an insurance score at 86:28 by Vanessa Benham, assisted by LaBonne, to hand Knox its second straight defeat.

Franklin outshot the Prairie Fire 15-10.  First-year goalie Rachael Koene (Golden Valley, Minnesota/Benilde-St. Margaret's) had four saves in her 84 minutes of action for Knox.  Junior Alex Rauland (Frankfurt, Germany/Frankfurt International) also had a save in six minutes of play.

The Prairie Fire resume play Wednesday at Rockford College (0-1-2).
