The Prairie Fire surrendered early goals in Midwest Conference matches Saturday at Lawrence University and Sunday at St. Norbert College and dropped both contests.

The Vikings defeated the Prairie Fire 5-3 and St. Norbert College won 8-0. Lawrence (6-10-1, 4-3-1 MWC) scored its first goal 5:32 into the match before adding a second at 23:56 to take a 2-0 lead.
Junior Arielle Dorman (Bothell, Washington) cut the Viking lead in half at 2-1 with her 10th goal of the season at the 24:57 mark. The Vikings answered with back-to-back goals by Mallory Koula at 40:08 and 42:39 to lead 4-1 at the intermission.
Lawrence, 37 seconds into the second half, scored again to extend the lead to 5-1.
Dorman netted her second goal of the match, assisted by first-year Ella Petersen (Winnetka, Illinois), at 76:27 to slice the Lawrence lead to 5-2.
Petersen scored her fifth goal of the season, assisted by Dorman, with less than 11 minutes to play in the contest for the last points of the afternoon.
Lawrence is battling two other teams for the fourth and final spot in the Midwest Conference. The Vikings, Monmouth College, and Ripon College all share the same league records. Carroll, St. Norbert College, and Grinnell College have qualified for the tournament.
Lawrence outshot the Fire 18-9 overall and 12-4 on goal. Senior Emily Turner (Kildeer, Illinois) and sophomore Rachael Koene (Golden Valley, Minnesota) combined for seven saves in goal for Knox.
St. Norbert College (9-7-1, 6-1-1 MWC) won its second straight match after getting on the board 25 seconds into the contest on the first of four goals by Katie Vanden Avond.
The leading scorer in the Midwest Conference, Vanden Avond scored her second goal at the 10:11 mark for a 2-0 St. Norbert lead. She then found the back of the net again at 22:59 and 61:59.
Vanden Avond broke nine-year old school records for goals (26) and points (58) in a season during the match against the Prairie Fire. She leads the league in five offensive categories.
The Green Knights led 4-0 at the break before adding four more goals in the second half.
SNC outshot the Fire 36-5 overall. Dorman got off three of her team's shots. Koene recorded eight saves in goal.
Knox (2-11-1, 0-5-1 MWC) returns to Jorge Prats Field for a Midwest Conference match October 26 against Illinois College. Like the Prairie Fire, the Lady Blues (4-8-4, 0-4-3 MWC) are still in search of their first conference win. IC tied Ripon, Grinnell, and Beloit.
The Prairie Fire and the Buccaneers played to a 1-1 tie on October 2.
The match against Illinois College begins at 1:30 p.m.
