The Prairie Fire and Beloit College, after battling through regulation and a pair of overtime periods, finished their Midwest Conference match in a 1-1 tie Sunday at Jorge Prats Field.
The match was designated as a Play for the Cure event, a Midwest Conference wide initiative to promote awareness for early detection of cancer and raise funds for to cancer research and prevention. September 30 through October 9 is the "Play for the Cure" week during the fall sports season.
Junior Arielle Dorman (Bothell, WA, Inglemoor) scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season at the 27:14 mark to put Knox (2-6-1, 0-1-1 MWC) on top 1-0. Dorman is fourth in goals scored in the MWC.
The Buccaneers (3-5-1, 0-2-41 MWC) tied the match at 1-1 at 57:40 on a goal by Molly Dickson, who is third in the league in goals scored with 11.
The teams played to a draw over the remaining 52:20.
The Prairie Fire outshot Beloit 19-13 overall, including 10-9 on goal. Dorman took seven shots, three of which were on goal. Buccaneer goalie Alex Spirov had nine saves in the match.
Knox goalie, sophomore Rachael Koene (Golden Valley, MN, Benilde-St. Margaret's), had eight saves.
A physical match, the teams combined for 26 fouls.
The Prairie Fire is back in action Wednesday, October 5 at Jorge Prats Field against Monmouth College. The match with the Fighting Scots (5-5-2, 1-1-1 MWC), which was added following the cancellation of the Fire's September 18 contest at Westminster College, is a non-conference match that begins at 4:00 p.m.
