Box Score
The Prairie Fire and Ripon played one of the most exciting soccer matches of the season. When the dust settled after the teams were forced to play an overtime period, the Red Hawks escaped with a 2-1 Midwest Conference victory Saturday at Jorge Prats Field.
Defense dominated the first 45 minutes as neither team could find the back of the net. The Prairie Fire (2-7-1, 0-2-1 MWC), playing its second consecutive overtime match, took a 1-0 lead on a goal by junior Arielle Dorman (Bothell, Washington) in the 54th minute -- her team leading eighth score of the season.
Ripon (5-7-1, 1-1-1 MWC) answered six minutes later on Brandi Peltier's goal at the 60:00 mark to tie the match at 1-1. Neither team scored over the remaining 30 minutes of regulation, forcing a 10 minute extra period.
Peltier scored her second goal, which proved to be the winner for Ripon, at the 97:30 mark to end the match.
The Prairie Fire got off five shots, three of them on goal. The Red Hawks fired 23 total shots and 13 were on goal. Peltier took eight shots, six of which were on goal. Dorman had three of the Fire's five shots.
Knox goalies, senior Emily Turner (Kildeer, Illinois) and sophomore Rachael Koene (Golden Valley, Minnesota), combined for 11 saves. Turner had three and Koene eight.
Ripon goalie Lexi Soich recorded two saves in the match.
Knox resumes play October 12 at Augustana College. The Vikings own a 7-4-1 overall record. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
