Women's Soccer Comes Up Short Against Millikin

Millikin University remained unbeaten with a 6-0 non-conference victory Thursday afternoon against the Prairie Fire at Jorge Prats Field.

The Big Blue (4-0) outshot Knox (2-4) 31-2 in the match, including 22-1 on goal. Millikin scored three goals in each half.

The Big Blue scored the first two goals within 20 seconds of each other for a quick 2-0 lead. Emily Leskowicz, on a deflection, sent a shot past Knox senior goalie Emily Turner (Kildeer, Illinois) to put Millikin on the board first at 18:07.

Samantha Miller followed with the first of her second goals at 18:27, assisted by Leskowicz, to give the visitors the two-goal advantage.

Miller connected again at 28:13, assisted by Chelsea Smalley, for a 3-0 lead that Millikin took into the intermission.

Sarah Christy scored the first two goals of the second half for Millikin -- at 46:26 and 58:45 -- for a 4-0 advantage. Lescowicz assisted on the first score and Bri Johnson assisted on the second goal.

Nikki Smith scored the Big Blue's sixth and final goal at 61:44 off a pass from Brittany Rohling. 

Millikin outshot the Prairie Fire 31-2 overall and 22-1 on goal. Junior Sam Thomas (Antioch, Illinois) got off both shots for the hosts.

Turner had 12 saves in goal before she was replaced with 18:50 to play in the match by sophomore Rachael Koene (Golden Valley, Minnesota). Koene added four saves in the net.

The Prairie Fire falls to 1-2 at home and lost its third straight match after winning two in a row.

Knox begins Midwest Conference play on September 24 at Carroll University (1-3) in Waukesha, Wisconsin.  The Pioneers take on Carthage College (WI) on September 21 in Kenosha, Wisconsin before hosting the Prairie Fire. 

Knox was scheduled to play a non-conference match on September 18 at Westminster College (MO), but the contest was canceled because of rain and flooding on the Westminster soccer field.
