The Prairie Fire pitched a second straight shutout, winning 6-0 Wednesday at Eureka College.
Fresh off a 5-0 home-opening victory Monday against MacMurray College, Knox (2-1) won its second straight match -- dominating Eureka (0-2) from start to finish.
First-year forward Ella Peterson (Wilmette, Illinois) had a huge day, scoring the first three goals of the match to give her team a 3-0 lead. Peterson has four goals through the first three matches of the season.
Senior Alex Rauland (Frankfurt, Germany) assisted on Peterson's first goal at 4:00 mark. Her next two goals were 39 seconds apart, at 14:21 and 14:50. Junior Arielle Dorman (Bothell, Washington) assisted on both of those scores.
Dorman also continued her strong early season play. She scored the Prairie Fire's last two goals of the match and had three assists.
Dorman, who leads the team with five goals through the first three matches of the season, gave Knox a 5-0 halftime lead with an unassisted goal at the 22:22 mark. She then scored the sixth and final goal of the match for the Prairie Fire at 60:31 off a pass from first-year forward Brittany Kozlowski (Brookfield, Illinois).
Also scoring for Knox was sophomore Rachael Koene (Golden Valley, Minnesota). Her shot got by Eureka goalie Sami Williamson 15:53 into the match to give the Fire a 4-0 lead.
Knox goalie Emily Turner (Kildeer, Illinois) recorded her second shutout of the season. Coach Melissa Joseph's squad outshot Eureka 25-1 and has allowed just one shot by the opposition in the last two matches.
The Prairie Fire travels to Canton, Missouri for a non-conference match Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against Culver Stockton College (0-2).
