Hot Shooting Lawrence Tops Men's Basketball Team

Galesburg, IL - Lawrence University made itself at home at Memorial Gym, burying a barrage of 3-point baskets in a 92-83 Midwest Conference victory Friday night against the Prairie Fire.

The Vikings jumped out to a 16-5 lead in the first five minutes of the game.  Lawrence (5-8, 4-3 MWC), which shot 50 percent and connected on seven 3-point baskets in the first half, led by as many as 21 points at 28-7 with 6:51 to play.

Knox (3-12, 2-8 MWC) shot 33 percent in the first half and trailed 42-22 at the break.

The Prairie Fire offense woke up in the second half.  Knox shot 64 percent from the field and outscored Lawrence 61-50, but the Vikings finished the game with 16 3-pointers and knocked down 51 percent of their shots overall.  LU also held the edge at the foul line 20-9.

Knox, which also shot 51 percent overall, cut a 24-point lead by Lawrence with 11:21 in the game down to nine at 84-75 with 1:03 remaining.  The Vikings made their free throws down the stretch to earn the win.

Senior Tanner Carlson (Annawan, IL, Annawan) led the Prairie Fire with 22 points.  Junior Lukas Shaw (Portland, OR, U.S. Grant) also reached double-figures with 12 points and sophomore David Jones (Denver, CO, Colorado Academy) had 10.

Chris Siebert scored a game-high 23 points for the Vikings.  Davis DeWolf added 21 and Tyler Crisman 19 -- all in the second half.  The three combined to sink 12 shots from beyond the 3-point arc.

The teams split the season series after Knox won at Lawrence back on December 13.

The Prairie Fire is back in action Saturday at home against Beloit College.  Knox is seeking a win to earn a season split with the Buccaneers.

The game is scheduled to tip off at 3:00 p.m.
