Decatur, IL – The Prairie Fire fell behind early and lost 9-1 in non-conference play on Wednesday at Millikin University.
The victory was the second straight for the Big Blue (5-7-2) and their first at home this season in four tries. Knox (3-9) fell to 1-6 in road matches.
Millikin built a 6-0 lead by the intermission and never looked back.
Brittany Rohling was a thorn in the side of the Prairie Fire. She scored the first of her four goals at the 4:15 mark of the contest. She also had two assists on the afternoon.
Prairie Fire senior Arielle Dorman (Bothell, WA, Inglemoor), who had three goals and three assists in last Monday’s win at home against Robert Morris University of Peoria, notched her eighth goal of the season 55:50 into the match. Sophomore Ella Petersen (Wilmette, IL, Lake Forest Academy), who also had a hat-trick against RMU, assisted on Dorman’s score to cut the Millikin lead to 6-1.
The Big Blue added three more goals between 62:59 and 73:44 to close out the match.
Millikin outshot the Prairie Fire 28-1, including 19-1 on goal.
Knox resumes play on Saturday at Midwest Conference leader Lake Forest College. The Foresters (8-4-1, 6-0-1) had won six straight matches until having to settle for a 2-2 tie on October 5 at St. Norbert College (8-2-2, 3-0-1 MWC).
The Green Knights were picked to win the conference in the 2012 Women’s Soccer Coaches Poll.
Lake Forest, with a 5-1-0 record at home, hasn’t lost since a 3-1 non-conference setback at Edgewood College on September 12.
