Women's Soccer Team Unable to Derail First Place LFC

Lake Forest, IL – The Prairie Fire was unable to play the role the spoiler and knock Lake Forest College out of first place in the Midwest Conference.

The Foresters won their seventh straight home match 4-0 against Knox on October 13.  Lake Forest (10-4-1, 7-0-1 MWC) has gone nine straight matches without a loss.  The last defeat for LFC was a 3-1 non-conference setback at Edgewood College on September 12.

The Foresters scored twice against the Prairie Fire (3-10, 0-6 MWC) in the first 10:00.  Holly Lesperance gave the hosts a 1-0 lead at the 7:12 mark and Hailey Schleibinger followed with a goal 9:06 into the match for a 2-0 advantage.

Lake Forest took a 3-0 lead into the intermission on a goal by Michelle Greenway at 17:31.

Lesperance scored her second goal, the last one of the match, early in the second stanza at 46:25 to account for the final score.

Lake Forest outshot Knox 24 to 1 overall and 16-0 on goal.  Junior goalie Rachael Koene (Golden Valley, MN, Benilde-St. Margaret's) recorded 12 saves for the Prairie Fire.

The win gives the Foresters some breathing room at the top of the MWC standings with three matches left to play, two of them against conference foes Monmouth College and Illinois College on the road. 

Grinnell College is in second place in the MWC with a 5-1 league record followed by Carroll University with a 5-2 conference mark.  Both Grinnell and Carroll are playing well.  GC has won two straight and Carroll is in the midst of a three-match win streak.

Knox plays its remaining four matches at home.  The Prairie Fire will try to end a string of two straight losses on October 16 against Monmouth (4-6-3, 2-2-1 MWC) at 4:00 p.m.  Carroll University visits Jorge Prats Field on October 20 –Knox’s Homecoming – at 11:00 a.m. followed by matches against Beloit College on October 21 at 11:00 a.m. and the season finale against St. Norbert College on October 27 at 11:00 a.m.
