Cornell Tops Women's Soccer Team

Mount Vernon, IA – The Prairie Fire lost a Midwest Conference match on a chilly Saturday afternoon at Cornell College 4-1.

Cornell (2-9, 1-5 MWC) ended a string of two straight losses with the win while Knox (2-8, 0-5 MWC) dropped its third in a row.  The temperature at the start of the match was 43 degrees combined with strong wind gusts that made it feel even colder.

The Rams led 1-0 at the intermission on a goal at 43:28.  Cornell added two more goals, one at 53:37 and the other at 57:23, for a 3-0 advantage.

First-year Madison Dana (Lafayette, CO, New Vista) got the Prairie Fire on the board with her first goal of the season, assisted by sophomore Ella Petersen (Wilmette, IL, Lake Forest Academy), at 69:19 to trim the deficit to 3-1.

The Rams added the final tally at the 84:24 mark of the match.  Chelsea Harris and Katherine Taylor each scored twice for the hosts.

Cornell fired 25 shots, including 20 on goal while Knox took four shots – two of them on goal.

Junior Rachael Koene (Golden Valley, MN, Benilde-St. Margaret's) had 11 saves in a little over 57:00 in goal for the Prairie Fire.  Senior Arielle Dorman (Bothell, WA, Inglemoor) was in goal over the final 32:37 and recorded five saves.

Knox tries to get back on track with a non-conference home match against Robert Morris University of Peoria on October 8.  The contest is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. at Jorge Prats Field.
