Galesburg, IL – The Prairie Fire got a break-out performance from one of its leaders and defeated Eureka College 4-0 on Wednesday at Jorge Prats Field.
The win was the second straight for Knox (2-5). Junior goalie Rachael Koene (Golden Valley, MN, Benilde-St. Margaret's) recorded her second straight shutout after the back-to-back victories against MacMurray College and Eureka.
Senior Arielle Dorman (Bothell, WA, Inglemoor) had her biggest offensive game of the season with three goals.
She scored an unassisted goal just 1:12 into the match to give the Prairie Fire a quick 1-0 lead. Knox doubled its lead at 2-0 on the first goal of the season by sophomore Chiedza Tapfumaneyi (Harare, Zimbabwe) at 32:31, assisted by sophomore Delsey Ramirez (Highland Park, IL, Highland Park).
Dorman scored both of Knox’s second half goals – her third and fourth of the season. She found the back of the net at 48:46 on an assist by first-year Abby Jackson (Poplar Grove, IL, Belvidere North) for a 3-0 advantage. Dorman closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 74:00 mark.
The Prairie Fire dominated possession. The hosts got off 23 shots to just two for Eureka. Knox outshot the Red Devils 10-1 on goal.
The Fire tries for its first Midwest Conference win of the season on Saturday at Grinnell College. Knox owns an 0-2 mark in league play.
Grinnell (2-5-1, 2-1 MWC) has won two of its last three matches, including a 4-0 MWC win against Illinois College.
