Men's Soccer Set to Meet Lake Forest in MWC Tourney

Galesburg, IL – The Prairie Fire men's soccer team is competing this weekend in the Midwest Conference Tournament at Lake Forest.

Knox is making its first appearance in the conference tournament, which began in 1989 – a year after Knox won its last league title.  The Prairie Fire finished the regular season with a record of 13-5 (6-4 MWC).  The 13 wins during the regular season are the most in the men's soccer program's history.

Knox meets regular season MWC champion Lake Forest College (12-6, 9-1 MWC) at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 8 in the tournament semifinals at Farwell Field.  The Prairie Fire handed Lake Forest its only conference loss, 2-1 on October 19 at Jorge Prats Field.

"The team has worked really hard all year long and has had some amazing results," said Matt Edwards, who took over as the head coach in 2012.  "They fully deserve to play in the Midwest Conference Tournament."

The two other teams in the tourney are Carroll University (13-4-1, 9-1 MWC) and St. Norbert College (9-7-2, 8-2 MWC).  St. Norbert is making its first appearance in the tournament since 2009 while Carroll is the defending tournament champion.  They will meet at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, November 8.

The winners of the two MWC Tournament semifinal matches on Friday will play in the championship on Saturday, November 9 at 12:00 p.m. for an automatic berth in the 2013 NCAA Division III Tournament.
