Box Score

Lake Forest, Ill. – The Prairie Fire started slow in both halves and fell 82-52 against Lake Forest College in Midwest Conference play on Saturday.

The Foresters scored nine of the first 11 points of the game before back-to-back layups by senior Adam Worden (Monee, IL, Crete-Monee) trimmed the LFC lead to 9-6 with just under 14:00 left in the first half.

Lake Forest followed with a 7-0 run for its first double-figure lead of the game, 16-6, at the 11:24 mark.  Knox whittled the deficit to eight (23-15) on a jumper by senior David Jones (Denver, CO, Colorado Academy/Air Force Academy) with 4:54 remaining, but another surge of seven unanswered points about 1:30 later built the Forester lead to 30-15.

The Prairie Fire shaved two points off of the Lake Forest advantage and trailed 40-27 at halftime.

LFC shot 50 percent and was 5-of-5 from the free throw line in the first half.  Knox hit 42 percent from the floor and sank 3-of-4 foul shots.

Any chance of a comeback was dashed after the Prairie Fire went scoreless over the first 6:40 of the second half.  Knox finally ended the drought on a bucket by first-year Deandre Weathersby (Chicago, IL, Kenwood Academy), but Lake Forest had increased the lead to 53-29 by then.

The Prairie Fire (1-5, 0-2 MWC) were unable to mount a rally and suffered their fourth straight loss.

Knox had only nine field goals and shot 30 percent in the second half to finish the contest at 36 percent.  The Fire also struggled from the free throw line, missing 10 of 19 attempts.

The Foresters (3-4, 2-2 MWC) warmed up to 54 percent shooting after halftime and 52 percent overall while holding a 19-9 advantage from the foul line.

Senior Eric Miller (Villa Park, IL, Willowbrook) was the only Knox player to score in double-figures with 13 points.  Worden added eight points on 4-of-5 shooting.

The Prairie Fire return home to face Monmouth College on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

The Fighting Scots (3-4, 2-2 MWC) came back from a six point halftime deficit to beat Beloit College 82-79 at home on Saturday to snap a two-game losing streak.
